Alot of M.Ds and trainers lay the facts but never the effort
Almost three years ago I was asked what I thought to be a simple enough question, thus I gave a simple enough answer followed by self-philosophized rants. Long story short I can see how wrong I was then, I gave a one part simple answer to a three part complicated question. Some of you must be wondering the question was and still is, shall we begin?
Question: Without Fear; Without Money; Who Would You Be And What Would You Do?
Before we get going I wish to express how I broke the question down in hopes that it will aid those few who may be reading. Before even remotely attempting round two of this question three years in the making I stopped and asked first, what is fear? Oxford says - the bad feeling that you have when you are in danger, when something bad might happen, or when a particular thing frightens you. They express it as feelings. Science tells us – Fear is a product of chemical processes developed through emotional learning and memory induction early on in the Amygdala (part of the brain), yet what about those fearless few, you don’t mean to tell me they just have damaged Amygdala’s? (Try saying that five times fast)…Well let me express the conclusions I have come to. Before answering what is fear I had to rationalize it into the most generalized concept which I found to be death/ or to be inhibited, from here on in its pretty easy to get, the person scared of heights is actually fearing the fall and what may result (above two), person fearing snakes is more afraid of the bite or possibly being strangled (resulting in above two), person who is claustrophobic is in reality afraid of never getting out or being crushed etc…
So then I asked myself well why fear possible death or being inhibited? Well that’s easy because it stops you from further or eventually doing the things you want. So my first conclusion is fear is a reaction to possible regret. Yes I believe fear is regret and that ultimately we fear the things that may harm us and inhibit us from further living, completing task or even dreams which the person shall ultimately possibly regret. I guess that’s what the old saying “live your life to the fullest” means. Yet some of you are going to ask, but Bre? (We will use this name to suggest the writer) what of those who fear loud sounds, slime and wool (yes there are people terrified of wool). Well I got an answer for that as well; they fear what they do not understand, a loud bang can create panic for its source unknown, perhaps the person is unaccustomed to slimy textures and it disgusts them, just maybe the person afraid of wool has only ever worn paper ever. So my final answer to what is fear? Fear is a concept of reaction to the unknown and possible chance of inhabiting us leading to future regret. Let’s see oxford respond to that.
Well now don’t worry the hard part is over, now we are going to have to talk about some bean (money). Can’t do anything without it right? That’s the saying is it not; those with most achieve the most? What ever happened to the saying “if you truly love you will find a way”. Let me tell you something about money and work, we spend a better part of our lives in school, building a resume to work our “dream” job. Nine times out of ten, sadly it isn’t. Look there are several types of placements we put ourselves into. 1st the influenced placement, parents, teachers peers tells us what we are expected to be and do to live a happy “stable” mundane life…becoming a doctor…a lawyer…weave carpets etc. (not disrespecting any of the above but we have all heard it before. 2nd the safety placement, I’m “good” with numbers so I’ll make money as an accountant, I’m “guaranteed” a job at my uncles construction site I’ll work there, I’m “offered” so and so, thus I’ll work here. Lastly 3rd the subject placement, basically you do well within a topic in school, further study it because you were already doing fair at it and will work around it or teach it. Now I won’t argue stability is nice but is it what truly excites you. I was told to think back to my childhood, as a child you basically know what it is you want, what you want to be doing and what drives you but as we mature we fall into one of the three placements. I had friends who wanted to be astronauts and loved space, others music, others were pure comedians. You know what rustled my jimmies? Super and action heroes, power rangers, batman, Spiderman, hell I can talk for days on Scorpion from mortal kombat can how he can whoop anybody.
Yet why did this excite me? Was it to fight crime, I told myself I can’t be them since I had no powers, until I saw Bruce Lee in Enter the Dragon like the small awesome screaming tunka trunk he his plowing down the bad guys. So I studied Kung-fu for almost eight years…and left. I love martial arts, all of them, the combat the training the philosophy but I was missing something. It had to be the adventures, traveling across Gotham, seeing strange sights, taking out Goro in the Netherrealm, so I began to look up traveling but something was missing still.
What it was the story itself. The action and the travels were nothing without the story to tell it in, everyone loved them and it is what excited me. Here I found three things I love in my childhood dreams of heroes, the training of the bodies and powers, the travels across times, space and sky, and ultimately the story they told, because they always had a great one at that.
Without Fear; Without Money; what who you do and who would you be…
Iv been called a lot, Stefan, bre, Serbia, vuk, ponytail etc., I would be all of these things but my answer to the question above is truly this,
Without Fear and Without Money I would travel, to every dark wood, lit street, Europe to Asia, Africa to Australia I would just travel, no destination even the walk or boat ride or plane ride or however I could manage to travel without anything would be a part of it. What would I do? I now know I would teach and share my stories, experiences and knowledge I had gained through my travels, whether it be kung-fu, health, stories etc. I would travel and teach. Best part is I know I’d be decent at it, always been a bit of an authority figure amongst friends. Now I’ve set a plan, sadly it involves some bean but I am not going to let the rest of my long years go by just yet.
So now that you’ve been with me so far let me ask you the same question, hopefully I helped you figured it out. I let you know if I was right as well.
Sincerely,
Stefan ‘Bre’ Cvijetan
How do I tell if I actually want to work in show business or if it’s just a fantasy resulting from being part of a culture that has been over-saturated with entertainment?
The fact that you can’t narrow your goals down to anything more specific than “work in show business” is evidence that…

I promise this isn’t what you expect. It’s so much cooler. If you have some free time at lunch, dig into this one.
Don’t mess with a mama elephant! A group of tourists at a game preserve in Botswana caught this stunning moment on film as a protective mama elephant fought off a ravenous pack of hyenas threatening her tiny calf.
